The Highgate Mile

Over 250 fun runners joined us in Waterlow Park on Sunday 23rd March to help us Raise Money for Sports Relief, along with thousands of others across the UK.

Old and Young, families and even a few dogs joined us to run the circuit of one of the most beautiful parks in London.

Runners were able to choose from the 6 mile, 3 mile, and one mile options. The day was a great success and the weather was very kind to us even if the hills of Highgate weren't!

To absolutely everyone who took part, we can’t thank you enough. Because of your amazing generosity the current Sport Relief total stands at £53,370,743 - But you can still donate and even the smallest amount of money will help change lives for those less fortunate across the globe!

Sports Relief is a charity from Comic Relief in association with BBC Sport which brings together sport and entertainment to raise money for vulnerable people in both the UK and in the world's poorest countries.

In the UK, money raised helps give shelter to homeless young people and protection to those living on those living with domestic abuse, and provides life saving vaccines, clean water and education for those across the world. The heart of the campaign is the 'Sport Relief Mile' which involves members of the public doing their bit for charity.

Salmon Tartare

This recipe is not only easy to follow, it is also packed with healthy proteins and omega 3 and super low in carbs!  You could also swap salmon for tuna or beef.

Ingredients

·         Sushi grade salmon/ tuna (allow 150-200g per person)
·         Avocado
·         Chives
·         Sesame oil
·         Mirin (Japanese rice wine)
·         Soy sauce (preferably Japanese soy)
·         Wasabi (kizami or fresh wasabi would be amazing, paste would be alright)

Instructions

·         Dice sushi into fine pieces (or chunkier if you would so prefer). A very easy way of doing so is by scraping the piece of fish with a teaspoon. Using this method also helps eliminate the sinew or lining as opposed to using a knife.
·         Mix soy and mirin into the diced salmon at a 1:1 ratio, add a couple drop of sesame oil, finely chopped chives and wasabi (please add wasabi to taste, fresh wasabi gives the extra crunchy texture)
·         Roughly dice the avocado, season with black pepper and set aside
·         Using a cake ring, lay avocado in the base and give it a gentle firm push to set the shape, then apply the same to salmon on top
·         Remove ring and voila!
·         Tobiko (fish roe) could also be added on top as a garnish

All About You Food Revolution Farmer's Market

  •          43 million children under 5 are overweight or obese.
  •         96% of kids in the UK don’t get their 5 a day.
  •         20% of children in Australia think pasta comes from animals!

Our kids are growing up overweight and malnourished from a diet of processed foods, and today's children will be the first generation ever to live shorter lives than their parents.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution is a national movement to change the way we eat. At All About You we have joined the Jamie Oliver food revolution programme, and as part of our mission we have established the All About You Farmer’s Market. We can fight obesity with better food, and to get people cooking healthy meals again both at home and in schools. Come along to the All About You Farmer’s Market on Sunday 27th April 2014 to learn about, but more importantly to ENJOY, healthy and fresh food.

Our stalls will include:

Have a look at the Food Revolution website to learn more about why we need to change the way we eat and how with some tasty recipes from Jamie Oliver himself!

Spin-a-thon Recovery

What an amazing weekend!

Thank you to everyone that came along to support our 24 hour event! We had around 300 people call in at various points over the weekend and we have so far managed to raise a great deal of money for the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundatation. If you couldn't make it down and would like to make a contribution then please head over to their JUST GIVING page and help us boost the final total!

If you DID  join us then you may be feeling a bit sore today...

Don't worry, we're here to help ;-)

We chose to host the spin-a-thon because we hoped to encourage, young, old, elite and novice cyclists to join in and do their bit - and we did just that, with a few dogs joining in as well for good measure!

Although cycling is a great way to get fit and feel great it can play havoc on your hips!

You see, most of us already spend too much time sat down, but sitting down whilst getting your muscles contracting will shorten the muscles around your hips even more setting you up for injury and back pain.

We'd rather you donated your hard earned cast to The Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation than your favourite Osteopath - so if you are a little bit sore today then try this one stretch to resolve it....

Kneel on your right knee with your toes relaxed and place the left foot flat on the floor in front of you. The knee should be bent at 90 degrees and sit directly above the ankle.

Squeeze the glutes and push the hips forwards slightly until you feel the tension in your right hip and thigh.

You can extend one or both arms over your head and slightly arch your back to increase the stretch further. Hold this position for 30 seconds and then switch sides.

In my opinion this is The King of Stretches and would help the 80% of the population who suffer from back pain greatly!

If you have any feedback on the weekend or would like any more health and fitness information or advice, we'd love to hear from you!
