Salmon Wrapped in Bacon with raspberries - (Serves 1)

Meal time Monday's - Here is another really simple recipe I have used with my detox clients. Clean, healthy and tasty!;-)

Ingredients:

·         One or two Salmon fillets
·         2 slices of Organic streaky bacon
·         1 cup of raspberries
·         Olive oil
·         Large bunch of Asparagus
·         Seasoning
·         1 clove of garlic
·         1 Lemon

How to make it:

Really simply, place the salmon onto tin foil and wrap in the streaky bacon. Dress with a little Olive oil and pour the raspberries on top. Season with a little salt/pepper, then fold the foil over and place into the oven on a baking tray at 180 c for 15 minutes.

In the mean time snap the asparagus and place into the steamer. Steam for 5 mins or until a knife can pass through them (remember you can have lots of asparagus). You can then sweat off 1 chopped clove of garlic with a little olive oil and lemon to serve over the top (the lemon will help your body absorb the iron from the asparagus).

The salmon should now be ready. Check both fillets are fully cooked and serve with the asparagus.

I would serve the whole raspberries on the salmon and asparagus too.

Bon appetite healthy people!

Meal Time Monday's - Kedgeree

Kedgeree    - (Serves 2)

If you want something a little different at breakfast time - or for a brunch - this healthy kedgeree recipe is a must.

Benj, our nutritional expert at the studio is a big fan of this dish and uses it in his detoxification programme. Even if you aren't usually a fish lover the delicate mixture of flavours will have you coming back to this recipe again and again. You could also try this recipe with oily fish like salmon or tuna, with a little more curry powder to spice things up.

Here’s how you make it:

Ingredients:

·         3 or 4 cups Organic Brown rice
·         2 large smoked Haddock fillets
·         3 large boiled eggs
·         1/2 a red onion
·         3 handfuls of spinach
·         4 spring onions
·         1 Red chilli
·         1 Handful chopped parsley
·         1 Cup of garden peas
·         10-12 Black or green olives
·         1 tablespoon of turmeric
·         1 teaspoon of cumin
·         1 teaspoon crushed coriander seeds
·         3 tablespoons of olive oil
·         2 cloves of garlic

How to make it:

Start by setting the rice up in a pan to simmer as this will take the longest to cook. Add as much water as required to cover the rice and include the turmeric in doing so. This will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to cook or until the husk of the rice has opened. Taste to check.

In the meantime start to prepare the vegetables and spices. Slice the red onion, spring onion, garlic, chilli and roughly chop the parsley.

The cumin and coriander seeds can be ground with a pestle and mortar until fine.
For the haddock, place some foil in a baking tray and place the haddock fillets on top. Season the Haddock, adding a splash of milk or water, just for moisture. This will take only 10 – 12 minutes to cook on a medium/high heat (160 c).

Next using a wok or large pan, sweat off the onions, spinach, garlic and chilli, in a little olive oil. Add in the ground spices and leave the pan to the side. This is the perfect time to boil the eggs. They should take about 3-4 minutes.

Now the rice should be done, you can drain or the water and add the beautifully yellow rice to the pan with the onions etc. adding the peas which will only need heating through. The eggs will need to be peeled and crushed and also added to the mixture.

To finish the dish finally add the haddock which you have pre-flaked and finish with parsley. Stir the Kedgeree through and serve.

Time To Detox?

We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis at work, in the home, through the air we breathe, our food and water supply, and through the use of pharmaceutical drugs. In addition, we are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives.

For decades, scientists have been studying the pollutants in our air, water, food, and soil. U.S. industries manufacture over 6 trillion pounds of 9,000 different chemicals a year. They dump billions of pounds of industrial chemicals into our air and water year after year. So now scientists have started to examine pollution levels in humans and their findings are deeply disturbing.

The foods and drinks we like the best, unfortunately happen to be the ones that are the worst for us.

The Truth

The more of these you consume the more acidic your body will become.

Our bodies are extremely clever at surviving, and set up defense mechanisms against substances that could harm our vital organs. In this case it is FAT. Our bodies use Fat to defend its self against an acidic system. This can also explain one reason why exercise is sometimes quite ineffective.

The organ most under threat is the Liver. Research clearly proves that our bodies are not capable of eliminating all the different toxins and chemicals we inhale and ingest every day. They simply accumulate in our cells (especially fat cells), tissues, blood, organs (such as the colon, liver and brain) and remain stored for an indefinite length of time causing all kinds of health problems. (Here are pictures of what pollution build-up looks like in the liver, versus a healthily functioning liver).

However the production of acid is also a natural function within the body. All of the cells (billions of them) that make up the human body are slightly alkaline, and must maintain alkaline in order to function and remain healthy and alive. However when we move, their cellular activity creates acid and this acid is what gives the cell energy and function. As each alkaline cell performs its task of respiration, it secretes metabolic wastes, and these end products of cellular metabolism are acid in nature.

Other than the liver one of the main areas that is subject to serious health issues is the Intestines and the Colon.Look at this picture on the right, would you feel constipated, bloated and lethargic? Would your bowels be irritated by this build-up day in and day out causing what we today call IBS? Just think about what other problems toxic build-up like this can cause? Stomach pain and constipation? Fatigue, gas and bloating? Overgrowth of Candida? Headaches and indigestion? Weight gain and a large protruding belly?

It has been stated that over 90% of disease in America could be traced to unhealthy conditions in the bowel. “The poisons thus generated (in the bowel) pollute the bloodstream, causing every tissue, gland, and organ of the body to gradually deteriorate and be destroyed.

When do you need to Detox?

If this is the first time you've been exposed to this life-changing information, you've probably never considered this simple question: Are you clean inside? Of course you take care of the outside: You shower, brush your teeth and wash your hair on a regular basis, but do you clean yourself inside? In this modern, toxic world it's becoming a simple fact of life that our colon & Lymphatic System (the ‘sewer system' of the body), liver and other organs also require cleansing. Just like a car requires an oil change periodically.

‘You service and tune your car up every 6-12 months or every 5000 miles. Why? To ensure that you get the most from it and that it lasts longer…When was the last time you did this for yourself? And what is more important – you or your car?’
If you experience one or more of the following, then it's time to detoxify:

Frequent fatigue and low energy
Flatulence, gas & bloating
Excess weight
Impaired digestion
Irritability, mood swings
Bad breath & foul-smelling stools

Recurring headaches
Constipation
Protruding belly ("pooch")
Powerful food cravings
Skin problems
Metallic taste in mouth
